ヨーロッパに残るループ組紐のテキスト数冊を比較研究した本です。現存するテキストのいずれにも実際の組み方は説明されていなくて、ただ各文字の色の変え方を表にしたり、テキストで説明したものがあるだけで、著者らはそれらを読み合わせて、独自に組み方を推測し、提案しています。
基本的に、明色と暗色の２色使いで、Spanish Braid と呼ばれる組み方をしています。
やり始めると、楽しくて、止められません。まだすべての文字を試していませんが、すべてを間違いなしに完成させるのは、なかなか大変で、集中力が必要です。
上の黒地に藤色の文字が１０ループ、下の紺地に空色文字が１４ループです。
１４ループをひとりで操作するのは大変です。クテを使いました。クテの良いところは、ループを休ませておくことができるので、たくさんのループを操作できることです。
A friend of
mine lent me a book called "European Loop Braiding - Investigations and
Results" by Noémi
Speiser & Joy Boutrup. The book
introduces how to braid alphabets! It is
a 4-volume series and the one I read was Part 2. The authors studied several old manuscripts and
compared them trying to reproduce alphabets.
Oddly enough none of the existent manuscripts explains how to braid, but
they only show how to change colors to produce alphabets. After studying the explanations and charts,
the authors make suggestions about how to braid.
Basically it
is Spanish Braiding using two colors, dark and light. Once you start braiding, it is hard to stop
because you want to see what the next letter looks like. I have not tried all the letters yet. I will have to concentrate enough to complete
all the letters without mistake.
The
top one with lilac letters on black background is made with 10 loops and the
bottom one with light blue letters on dark blue background is with 14
loops. You need a bit of experience to
handle 14 loops with 10 fingers. I used
Kute for the 14-loop. One of the good
things about Kute is that you can lay down loops while working with other ones
and consequently you can work with a number of loops comfortably.
